What advertisers need to know

LAYOUT GUIDELINES:

Full-color (CMYK) is preferred for all ads (no additional charge).

Ads Must be provided as high resolution (300 dpi) PDF, eps, jpg or tiff files. The ad file can be sent via contact us

For ads that bleed, the background art can extend to the edge of ad dimensions, but text and pertinent graphics should be at least 1" away from ad's edge to avoid having it trimmed off during printing process.

Print and Digital Publishing

ID: UNLOCKED Magazine size 5.5 x 8.5

  • All pages are to be built to the actual final trim size of our magazine 5.5 x 8.5.

All bleeds should exceed the final trim size by a minimum of 1/8".

All copy should be kept a minimum 1/8" from final trim

All copy for perfect bound publications should be kept a minimum from 3/8" from spine (5/8" from spine for inside cover, inside back and first and last text pages

See the image for ad sizes.

  • Black text must contain only black (no Cyan, Magenta or Yellow, no RGB black).

Type over white or light backgrounds should be black or very dark. Type over black or dark backgrounds should be white or very light.

To maintain quality, black text should be a minimum 6-pt sans serif medium font.

To maintain quality, reverse type should be a minimum 8-pt sans serif bold face font.

To maintain quality, overprint type should be a minimum 6-pt sans serif bold face font.

Century Publishing recommends using reliable, quality fonts, such as those available from Adobe and Linotype. Many inexpensive and free fonts, such as Google fonts, are often intended for low resolution work, such as web design, and prove unreliable for high resolution output. Low cost fonts may look good on the screen of a computer, tablet or smart phone, but do not embed properly in PDFs and do not render as intended when output in high resolution for a commercial printing press.

  • Line work scans should have a minimum effective resolution of 300 dpi.

Convert images to CMYK color mode using UCR, with a maximum density of 300%, and a maximum black of 85% or specify "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2" as CMYK profile prior to converting from RGB to CMYK.

For rules and lines specify line thickness to maintain consistency. The use of "hairline" rules or lines should be avoided.

Publisher reserves the right at its absolute discretion, and at any time, to cancel any advertising order or reject any advertising copy in connection with any Service, whether or not the same has already been acknowledged and/or previously published, displayed, performed or transmitted (collectively referred to herein as “Published” or “Publish”), including, but not limited to, for reasons relating to the content of the advertisement or any technology associated with the advertisement. In the event of such cancellation or rejection by Publisher, advertising already run and to be run shall be paid for at the rate that would apply if the entire order were Published and no Short Rate (as defined below) will apply.

In addition, Publisher reserves the right to (i) remove from selected copies, editions, versions, or sections of a Service advertisements containing matter that readers have deemed objectionable (ii) implement blocking technology (including, but not limited to, geo-blocking technology) in connection with a Service; and (iii) enhance, upgrade and/or otherwise modify or discontinue any Service at any time. Publisher, at its absolute discretion, may terminate its relationship with Advertiser and/or Agency for the breach of any of the terms hereof, including without limitation a breach based on the failure on the part of either Advertiser or Agency to pay each bill by its due date. Should Publisher terminate its relationship with Advertiser and/or Agency, a short-rate (which is the difference between the rate charged on the contracted frequency and the higher rate based on the reduced frequency of advertisements actually Published and paid for, herein a “Short-Rate”) may apply and all charges incurred together with short-rate charges shall be immediately due and payable. Furthermore, in the event Advertiser or Agency breaches, Publisher may, in addition to its other remedies, (a) cancel its recognition of Agency, thereby causing Agency to lose claim to any commission for any further advertising placed with Publisher on behalf of Advertiser or any other client of Agency, and/or (b) refuse to Publish any or all of Advertiser’s advertising.
